Versailles emergency responder Cheryl F. Nelson recently completed training offered by the Center for Domestic Preparedness in Anniston, Ala. Nelson is a member of Louisville Metro Police Department Joint Emergency Services Unit, Bluegrass Emergency Response Team and Woodford County Community Emergency Response Team. The Center for Domestic Preparedness is operated by the U.S. Department of Homeland Security’s Federal Emergency Management Agency and is the only federally chartered weapons of mass destruction training facility in the nation.
Workshop to explore safety for those with dementia
As dementia progresses, the needs and abilities of a person change. A workshop planned for May 16 will share tips and strategies for adapting a home to support these changes with a little creativity, flexibility and problem-solving. The program will be from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. May 16 at The Homeplace, 101 Sexton Way, Midway. A free lunch will be served. Registration is required; call the Alzheimer’s Association at 1-800-272-3900.
