PARIS — A detective testified Tuesday in Bourbon District Court that a man charged with murder stabbed his girlfriend's lover three times in the chest.
Billy Martin, 43, of Paris was arrested Oct. 31 and charged with murder in the death of Derek D. Stockton, 30, who was found dead in the bedroom of his home on Shannon Drive in Paris.
District Judge Mary Jane Phelps said the information presented "appears, to me, to be overwhelming." She found probable cause to send the case to a grand jury.
Paris police Detective Kevin Anderson said Martin, his girlfriend and another woman went to Martin's home that night to have sex. Martin, who was drinking, left his home to get alcohol and cigarettes.
While Martin was gone, the two women called Stockton, with whom Martin's girlfriend had a sexual relationship, Anderson said. Martin got upset when he returned and told Stockton to leave. Martin started arguing with his girlfriend. The two women left early the morning of Oct. 31 and went to Stockton's home, Anderson said.
Martin went to Stockton's home on Shannon Drive and pulled Stockton outside, Anderson said. The two men fought in the front yard, and they rolled down a hill and against a mailbox. When the fight ended, Martin went home and Stockton went back to his house.
Stockton told a man in the house he thought he'd been stabbed. Stockton then went into his bedroom, where he died, Anderson said.
Anderson said police have not found the weapon.
