A Nicholasville man charged last year in the beating death of a Carlisle woman has been sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of parole for 25 years.
Gary T. Stone, 33, pleaded guilty Wednesday in Bourbon Circuit Court to murder, first-degree burglary, first-degree assault and tampering with physical evidence. In a plea agreement, prosecutors dismissed a persistent felony offender charge.
Although Stone was eligible for the death penalty, he received the sentence recommended by prosecutors, Assistant Commonwealth's Attorney said.
Stone entered a home on Muir Station Road in Bourbon County on Jan. 17, 2009, to steal weapons that he could sell for drugs, according to court records.

Investigators said Stone went into the living room and found Pauline Mastin, 43, an overnight guest at the house, sleeping on the couch. Stone hit Mastin in the head with a hammer.
