Parents of Dunbar High School students received a letter Tuesday notifying them about an incident in which a student holding a plastic toy rifle stood on his vehicle in the school parking lot.
The incident occurred after school was dismissed Friday afternoon.
“Although we cannot discuss student disciplinary matters, I want to assure you that appropriate action has been taken to address this situation,” Principal Betsy Rains said in the letter. “We are committed to keeping Paul Laurence Dunbar High School a safe place to learn and work and we have been working closely with the family of the student involved.”
She said urged parents to use the situation as an opportunity to reiterate to students that “situations like this are extremely serious, and can quickly escalate with unintended consequences.”
