A sprinkler head connector was damaged Tuesday evening at University of Kentucky Chandler Hospital, causing water damage to the emergency department and to the central sterile and supply area.
A patient was involved in the incident and an investigation is ongoing, accord to UK spokeswoman Kristi Lopez.
As a result of the damage, 11 patients were moved from the emergency department to beds in the hospital, and seven patients were transferred to UK Good Samaritan Hospital, Lopez said.
On Wednesday, Lopez said in a news release, the emergency department had returned to normal operation, but some treatment areas were temporarily out of service. In addition, some elective operating room cases scheduled for Wednesday were rescheduled.
No immediate information was available on the cost of the sprinkler damage.
