They may be stubby, but they can put it in gear.
Dachshunds descended on Red Mile Saturday evening for the second annual wiener dog races. Attendees could pick their favorite canine athletes through donation bets, and the money benefited the Lexington Humane Society.
Each race was 40 yards. Event rules required every dog to bring two humans — one to “load” the racer into the starting gate, one to collect him or her at the finish line.
But the elongated pooches didn’t get all the fun. The event also included the “Running of the Bull … Dogs” and an all-breed “Rescue Run.”
