The city is not raising property and personal tax rates this year.
On Thursday, the Urban County Council approved the property tax rate for the city's main funds — the general fund and urban services fund — and set the tax rate for special taxing districts, including the soil and water conservation district.
For the general fund tax rate, the average tax bill for a $165,000 house would be $286.77. For the urban services fund, which pays for street cleaning and street lights, the average tax bill for a $165,000 house would be $132.00, for a total of $418.77.
Nevertheless, Fayette County homeowners will see property taxes go up on tax bills that go out this fall.
The Fayette County School District approved a 2.1-cent increase per $100 of assessed valuation. Schools make up the majority of homeowners' tax bills. The increase means the owner of a $100,000 home would pay an additional $21 a year.
