The Urban County Council will hold a public hearing Tuesday on rezoning for a tract off Harrodsburg Road where a large bur oak tree has stood for three centuries.
Developer Kevin Crouse has changed his plans and now would move a proposed street away from the tree, said Bill Lear, his attorney. Other changes have been made in response to concerns raised by neighbors, Lear said.
Lauren Larson, a neighbor who raised alarms about the tree, said she wants to make sure the development is done in such a way that the tree continues to thrive. Neighbors also object to the density and traffic connected to the 193 townhouses that would be put on the 25 acres.
The development is next to Harrodsburg Road across from Military Pike.
The hearing begins at 6 p.m. in the council chambers at the Urban County Government Center, 200 East Main Street. It also can be seen live on Insight cable channel 3 and on the city's Web site, www.lfucg.com.
