Doug Martin, the new Urban County Council 10th District representative, was sworn in Thursday night just before his first council meeting.
Martin, 45, was sworn in by Judge John Rogers from the Sixth Circuit Court of Appeals. His wife, Lee Ellen, and his two children, Reynolds, 8, and Ellie, 5, attended the ceremony.
Mayor Jim Newberry appointed Martin to the seat on Jan. 17. Martin will serve the remaining two years in the term of Don Blevins Jr., who stepped down to accept an appointment as Fayette County clerk.
Martin, an attorney who specializes in corporate and commercial real estate law, is a Lexington native with experience in public service and the arts. He serves on the board of the Lexington Philharmonic, is a member of the Lexington Singers and is a former president of the Beaumont Neighborhood Association.
