Lexington Mayor Jim Newberry will attend a meeting at the White House Wednesday to provide input on a plan President Barack Obama is designing to stimulate the economy and create jobs.
Newberry will be one of 18 mayors at the meeting to discuss the American Recovery and Reinvestment Plan, a bill that would provide funding for cities and counties. Lexington had identified almost 200 projects totaling $556 million that could potentially receive funding.
The bill has passed the House and is now under consideration in the Senate.
Mayors from across the country have been meeting with their Congressional delegations this week to encourage them to support the legislation. Newberry met with Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell and Rep. Ben Chandler and Rep. Hal Rogers, both members of the House Appropriations Committee.
