Two men were badly injured Sunday when their car hit a dump truck and burst into flames on Old Frankfort Pike.
Lexington police said that driver Orlando Astacio, 24, of Lexington, and passenger Adrian Tellez, 30, of Louisville, were eastbound at 8:35 a.m. when their 1996 Dodge Stratus hit a state Department of Transportation dump truck that was stopped on the road with its flashers on. The driver was helping another motorist whose vehicle was disabled in the road, police said.
Police said a witness saw the Dodge hit the truck at a high rate of speed. Bystanders pulled the men from the vehicle after it caught fire. Both men were taken to the University of Kentucky Hospital, where Astacio was in critical condition and Tellez was in serious condition.
No one else was injured.
