The Kroger on Romany Road closed Saturday afternoon and won’t reopen until building inspectors check the damage caused when a woman drove her SUV through the store’s front window.
Joe Ignacio, the Romany Road Kroger manager, said he will meet with city building inspectors and the fire marshal Sunday at 8 a.m. to determine when the store can reopen.
Ignacio was in the Kroger’s back room when he heard a loud crash around 3 p.m. He rushed to the front of the store.
“I saw an SUV where check-out lane five used to be,” he said. The lane wasn’t being used at the time of the crash.
A 79-year-old woman was trying to park her silver Escalade on Romany Road and mistakenly hit the accelerator instead of the brake, propelling the SUV through the window, said police Lt. Chris Van Brackel.
No charges have been filed.
Two customers were taken to the hospital, but no one was seriously injured, Ignacio said.
