Are you frying your Thanksgiving turkey this year?
The city of Lexington and Bluegrass PRIDE are offering to recycle the used cooking oil in a safe, environmentally friendly manner.
The first-ever "Gobble Grease Toss" will be held from 8 a.m. to noon Nov. 26 and Nov. 27 at the municipal recycling facility, 360 Thompson Road.
Fats, oil and grease from cooking that are poured down the drain can clog sewer lines, possibly leading to the discharge of untreated sewage into roads, creeks and streams.
Never miss a local story.
Disposal of the cooking oil at the Gobble Grease Toss is free. Participants should bring the oil in a sealed container to help prevent spillage. The cooking oil will be collected by Griffin Industries and recycled into biofuel and animal feed.
