A public meeting is scheduled for 4 p.m. Thursday in the Kentucky Theatre with Chicago architect Jeanne Gang, who is creating a new design for the CentrePointe block.
Gang was hired by developers Dudley and Woodford Webb to come up with a new design for the block that has sat empty since 2008, when 14 buildings were torn down. The project has been stalled because of a lack of financing.
When Gang was in Lexington in June for a meeting to gather public input, she said she envisioned a cluster of smaller, contemporary buildings along Main Street designed by local architects. Two towers would be on the block — the shorter one with retail and office space, the taller one housing a hotel and condominiums.
Gang said she would return in mid-July with a detailed design for the towers and to announce the Kentucky architects who will be involved in the project.
