A 3-year-old child had part of his pinkie finger cut off on a ride at the Bluegrass Fair Saturday night.
Lt. Edward Hart of the Lexington police said "the ride was operating as normal," when the top third of the child's finger was cut off.
"Some mechanical part of the ride took it off," Hart said.
The Lexington Fire Department took the child, whose name was not released, to University of Kentucky Chandler Hospital, Hart said.
Fair spokesman Michael Kaplan said the ride was shut down after the incident and the state had been notified.
The ride, called Fun Zone, is a "jungle gym" type activity that children crawl through, he said, adding that the state had inspected it before the fair opened.
"There was no mechanical failure as far as we know," Kaplan said.
The fair's last day is Sunday.
