A 41-year-old Lexington man died Saturday night when the Pontiac Grand Prix he was driving ran off Briar Hill Road and crashed through a plank fence.
Lexington police said Mark A. Garrett, who apparently was traveling east, apparently failed to negotiate a curve near 3676 Briar Hill Road. A fence post struck the car's windshield and the leading edge of its roofline, killing Garrett, police said. Garrett was not wearing a seat belt.
A passing driver found the wreckage, and after seeing that the driver had critical injuries, began administering cardiopulmonary resuscitation and called for help, police said.
The victim died of multiple blunt-force trauma at the University of Kentucky Chandler Medical Center at 9:35 p.m., according to the Fayette County coroner's office.
