Wedding bells ring for Urban County Council member Jay McChord, who will marry Jennifer Bryant on Saturday at the Hunt-Morgan House in Gratz Park.
The two, introduced by a friend, dated for a little more than a year. During that time, they had friends who became engaged at a restaurant.
"They were sitting there eating. He said, 'Will you marry me?' She said, 'Sure,'" McChord said.
Over and over Bryant mentioned how the guy didn't give his finance a ring or even put a twisty from a loaf of bread on her finger, McChord said.
"That sure wasn't romantic or the way she wanted to get engaged," he said.
Last summer, while McChord and Bryant were in New York City for a conference, he proposed at midnight on the top floor observation deck of the Empire State Building. The yellow gold engagement ring McChord gave Bryant was one he had custom-designed in the shape of a twisty.
Both are divorced. Bryant has a son Davis, 9, from her previous marriage. McChord has a daughter, Riley, 8.
Bryant, 37, is business development manager for North American channel sales at Lexmark International. McChord, 44, is a consultant in generational communications.
McChord did not run for re-election, but he said on Thursday he doesn't rule out getting back into public life in the future.
