The Lexington Parking Authority is lowering meter rates and increasing time limits in certain areas to encourage more parking.
The Lexington and Fayette County Parking Authority Board of Commissioners recently approved a proposal to decrease the meter rates in three meter districts and increase the time limits in a fourth district, Gary A. Means, executive director of the Lexington and Fayette County Parking Authority, said in a news release.
Rates are being lowered from $1 an hour to 50 cents in the Jersey Street area, the South Martin Luther King area and the Water Street and Eastern Avenue area, Means said. Jersey street is two blocks long, running parallel between South Upper Street and South Limestone.
The fourth district in the Old Vine Street area already had 50-cent rates, so the time limit was increased from two to four hours, Means said.
The changes should be in effect by the end of May, Means said.
