The Lexington Rescue Mission served a free Christmas meal Wednesday at Broadway Christian Church. In addition to the dinner crowd, it attracted 125 volunteers.
Among them was Kisha Jackson of Lexington, who directed people to tables. Jackson said that she first volunteered with the mission on Thanksgiving. "I enjoyed it so much, I decided to come back for Christmas and will come back again next year," she said.
First-time volunteer Darcey Combs of Lexington said she was doing it to honor a close friend who was involved with the mission and recently passed away.
Doug Ferguson of Nicholasville was another first-timer, but he said he volunteered regularly at the Hope Center on Saturday mornings. "It's wonderful," he said. "It's just nice serving people."
In addition to dinner, guests received emergency kits containing socks, toiletries and snack bars.
