Tuesday's classes at Fayette County Public Schools were canceled Monday afternoon because of forecasts calling for "dangerously cold" weather," school district spokeswoman Lisa Deffendall said. All afternoon and evening activities, including night school, were canceled. Classes were cancelled Monday and last Friday because of low temperatures or poor road conditions. Tuesday is the third day missed for winter weather. School officials said in an email to parents that classes will be held on April 25 for missing Jan. 3, and the district will have to make up Monday and Tuesday's missed days "after the original last day of school." Instead of May 28, 2014, being the last day of school for students, "we will now be in school the entire week after Memorial Day."
If no other days are cancelled this year, May 30 will be the last day of school, the release says.
Meanwhile, University of Kentucky offices and UK HealthCare hospitals and clinics will be open and operate on a regular schedule Tuesday, according to a news release. Classes in the colleges of Dentistry, Medicine and Pharmacy will be in session as well as MBA classes in the Gatton College of Business and Economics.
The release said employees should use "their best judgment in reporting to work."
