The Fayette County coroner's office has identified the victim of Friday's fatal crash on Interstate 64 near the Fayette-Scott county line.
Steven Krussel, 34, of Yorktown, Va., was declared dead at 2:52 p.m. Friday at the crash scene, Coroner Gary Ginn said.
Lexington police said a vehicle crossed the median from the westbound lanes and collided with a vehicle in the eastbound lanes. Four people were taken to a local hospital with injuries, also as a result of the crash.
Police shut eastbound I-64 for several hours Friday afternoon and closed one lane of westbound I-64 as they responded to the crash, snarling rush-hour traffic north of Lexington as thousands of vehicles were diverted onto two-lane country roads.
