A memorial service for Jessie Brothers, whose love for his dog Nubbin touched many, will be held Wednesday in Lexington.
The service will be from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. in the social room at Christian Towers Apartments, 1511 Versailles Road, said Brothers' sister, Amy Crawford of Lexington.
Crawford said there will be speakers, music and food as family and friends remember Brothers, who died Sept. 1 at age 66.
Brothers, a retired farm laborer who grew up in a family of 14 children, lived alone with Nubbin, his Jack Russell terrier.
The pair became widely known in Lexington two years ago, after Nubbin suffered a badly broken leg and Brothers couldn't afford the surgery his dog needed. The story led to an outpouring of donations and support, which provided care for Nubbin and eventually enabled Brothers to buy a small house, where he lived with his dog until Brothers' death.
A Lexington couple adopted Nubbin last week.
