The family of a 13-year-old Frankfort boy who drowned in the swimming pool at Transylvania University during a camp last summer has filed a wrongful death lawsuit.
The family of Ricky Harris III has sued the university, a camp counselor and two lifeguards in Fayette Circuit Court, WKYT-TV reports.
Ricky was attending a summer academic camp at Transy when he drowned during a recreational swim June 23, according to the coroner's office. He was pronounced dead at University of Kentucky Chandler Hospital.
Initial reports suggested Ricky might have suffered an injury while diving, but police said surveillance video confirmed that no diving board was involved.

WKYT reported that a surveillance video provided by the Harris family's attorney shows Ricky entering the shallow end of the pool, then becoming distressed and drowning in the deep end. The station reported that the boy lay at the bottom of the pool for more than 10 minutes unnoticed by two lifeguards.
