The Art Bar on Euclid Aveune must close for at least a week after a Fayette Circuit judge continued a hearing Friday.
Judge James Ishmael Jr. said the bar must close until at least Oct. 10 while attorneys for the Lexington-Fayette Urban County Government and the owner of the Art Bar, Gerald Mack, seek to resolve problems that have put the bar and city at odds.
The Board of Adjustment a week ago revoked the bar's conditional use permit, which was approved in 2012. That should have forced the bar to close, but it was open again on Saturday night. At Friday's hearing, the city government was seeking a restraining order to force the bar to close.
Several neighborhood associations complained about the bar, citing shootings, fights, loud noise and trash left over from parties. Stephen Amato, a lawyer for Mack, said Friday's hearing is a step in the right direction.
"We gathered together this morning and we sat down, and we think we are coming to common ground for something that makes sense for both the business community that is involved in this adventure, as well as the community."
