Lexington's Urban County Council elected chairpersons of three of four new committees on Tuesday.
Longtime Urban County Council member Bill Farmer was elected chairman of the new Environmental Quality and Public Works Committee during the first meeting of the council's new year.
Council member Chris Ford was elected chairman of the General Government and Social Services Committee.
Council member Jennifer Mossotti was elected chairwoman of the Planning and Public Safety Committee.

Last year, the council changed its committee structure, going from six standing committees to four.
The new committees are Planning and Public Safety, Environmental Quality and Public Works, General Government and Social Services and the Budget, Finance and Economic Development Committee.
The head of the Budget, Finance and Economic Development Committee will be elected at its first meeting later this month.
