Melinda Dawn Morgan, 34, who was charged in 2013 with the murder of her boyfriend, Antonio Epps, was sentenced Friday morning to 15 years in prison and ordered to pay $8,829 of restitution.
Morgan's murder charge was amended to manslaughter earlier in the week because domestic violence was involved in the crime, said defense attorney Adele Brown. There was a history of domestic violence between Morgan and Epps that played a role in the amending of the charge, Brown said.
Epps had struck Morgan and backed her into a corner of the kitchen, yelling at her, when Morgan stabbed and killed him, Brown said. Morgan and Epps' two young children were home when the stabbing occurred but were not hurt.
"This is a tragic situation for everyone involved," Brown said.

Morgan will be eligible for parole after serving 20 percent of her sentence — about 16 months.
