Scott County and Lexington firefighters doused a fire early Thursday at a vacant house on Leestown Road near the Fayette County line.
No one was hurt in the fire, but the house was heavily damaged and will probably have to be taken down, Scott County Battalion Chief Justin Baker said.
"It was a total loss," Baker said.
The Scott County department was called out about 2:30 a.m., and the Lexington Fire Department was already there when they arrived, Baker said. Firefighters were able to contain most of the significant flames by about 3 a.m., and they left about 5:30 a.m.
Never miss a local story.
Both lanes of Leestown Road near the house were closed for about three hours. The road is now open.
Baker said Kentucky State Police are investigating the fire as possibly arson, because no one was living in the house. Neighbors told investigators that the previous occupants had moved out of the house about two weeks ago.
