A power outage in north Lexington caused traffic snarls during rush hour Monday and left more than 5,400 Kentucky Utilities customers temporarily without power.
KU spokesman Cliff Feltham said the outage was caused by the failure of a piece of equipment at the transmission substation near Spring Valley Golf Club.
The area between Leestown Road and Old Frankfort Pike was affected.
Lexington police were sent to intersections without working traffic signals during the outage, and the county jail lost power and was unable to open doors for a while, police Lt. Joe Anderson said.
Never miss a local story.
Feltham said power was restored within about an hour.
