A 29-year-old man drowned on Sunday morning after falling into a pond at the Lexington Cemetery, officials said.
Luis Arevalo Jimenez tried to climb down the slope of the pond to feed the ducks, his girlfriend told 911 dispatchers. She said he slipped on the moss and fell into about five feet of water, but could not swim.
Fire and rescue personnel found Jimenez after he had been submerged for a total of 30 minutes, Lt. Jackie Newman of the Lexington Police Department said. He was taken to the University of Kentucky Chandler Hospital, where he later died.
The incident is being investigated as an accidental drowning, police said.
