LAWRENCEBURG — Police have charged a Lawrenceburg man with five counts of first-degree rape.
David Brandon Grow, 29, also was charged Sunday with second-degree assault and first-degree unlawful imprisonment, police said.
About 12:30 a.m. Sunday, officers went to Carlton Drive to respond to a report of a woman screaming for help.
Upon arrival, police rang the doorbell and knocked on the door, and they heard a woman's voice inside "screaming hysterically for help," according to a uniform citation filed in Anderson District Court.
After knocking again and announcing themselves as police officers, Officer David Patterson wrote, "I decided that the woman may be in danger, and we forced our way in to the residence."
The officers found a nude woman sitting in bed and covered in bruises and bleeding. She told police that Grow had assaulted her and kept her from leaving.
A criminal complaint said Grow "engaged in sexual intercourse by forcible compulsion on five separate occasions" at his residence.
Grow remained Monday afternoon in the Franklin County jail in lieu of a $500,000 full-cash bond.
He appeared Monday in Anderson District Court and was appointed a public defender.
A preliminary hearing is scheduled Aug. 13 in district court. At that time, a judge will determine whether there is probable cause to send the case to a grand jury.
