A Detroit man has been indicted on a murder charge in connection with the Sept. 13, 2010 death of a Franklin County man, Frankfort police said.
Marquis A. Sims, 38, was indicted last week by a Franklin County grand jury in the death of Obie Murphy, 40, of Shelby County. Sims is considered a fugitive, and police seek the public's help in locating him.
Murphy was shot during what Commonwealth's Attorney Larry Cleveland has called a "drug transaction that went bad." Murphy died at University of Kentucky Chandler Hospital in Lexington. Another man, Gregory Bell, 54, of Frankfort, was wounded in the shooting at an apartment complex on Thistlewood Avenue.
Frank Robert Witkowski, 44, of Detroit, also has been charged in the slaying. Wikowski pleaded guilty to first-degree assault under extreme emotional disturbance. He got permission to return to Michigan until sentencing, but then he skipped his July 29 sentencing hearing. A warrant is out for his arrest.
