A Harrodsburg man was charged with reckless homicide after a Franklin County crash killed a 17-year-old girl, according to Kentucky State Police.
A Franklin County grand jury indicted Kevin R. Butler, 31, on Wednesday. Butler allegedly was speeding and distracted by a cell phone when he ran a red light, causing the Jan. 8 wreck that killed Trista N. Shoemaker of Frankfort, according to a police news release Thursday night.
Butler was driving a 2002 Chevrolet utility truck south on U.S. 127 when he struck Shoemaker's 1999 Toyota, police said. Shoemaker died at the scene.
Shoemaker's 15-year-old passenger, also of Frankfort, was treated at Franklin County Regional Medical Center. Butler was flown to University of Kentucky Chandler Hospital for treatment after the wreck.
