A Frankfort woman was charged with animal cruelty Tuesday after two adult pit bulls and a litter of pups were found neglected and in need of veterinary care, police said.
Katanya Mason, 30, faces charges of second-degree cruelty to animals and failure to license and vaccinate the animals against rabies.
One of the pups was dead, and the mother of the pups was extremely malnourished, Frankfort police Maj. Fred Deaton said. All of the dogs showed signs of neglect.
On Feb. 1, Frankfort Animal Control received an abuse complaint at a home on Elkhorn Drive. Animal control officers discovered the animals and confiscated them, Frankfort police said. The dogs were taken to the Franklin County Humane Society.
Police charged Mason on Tuesday, Deaton said. She was taken to the Franklin County jail.
Cruelty to animals is a class-A misdemeanor with a maximum penalty of one year in a county jail.
