FRANKFORT — A Kentucky State Police trooper responding to a domestic violence call shot and killed a Frankfort man after he pointed a gun at troopers, state police said.
Paul D. Demaree, 38, died at Frankfort Regional Medical Center, state police said.
Troopers responded to a call around 10 p.m. Friday at a home where they found an injured woman in the driveway and a man with a handgun inside.
Trooper Ron Turley told The State Journal that troopers ordered Demaree numerous times to put the gun down and that the man was shot multiple times. Turley said Demaree had active warrants for assault and burglary.

A state police news release identified the trooper who fired his weapon as John B. Hawkins, a trooper for 7 years and 10 months. Hawkins, a sergeant and two others troopers are on administrative leave while an investigation continues.
