Community shred day is Friday at Commonwealth Credit Union
Commonwealth Credit Union will host a Community Shred Day from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Friday at 1425 Louisville Road in Frankfort.
Commonwealth CU members and the public may dispose of up to five boxes per person of old or unneeded financial or personal records. Business records will not be accepted for shredding.
Those attending are encouraged to donate nonperishable food items that will be given to the Backpack Snack program at family resource centers in local schools. This program provides weekend food for local schoolchildren in need.

Frank X Walker featured at Kentucky Writers' Day
Kentucky Writers' Day, a celebration of the literary arts, will begin at 10 a.m. Thursday at the Capitol Rotunda in Frankfort. The event will feature Frank X Walker, Kentucky's current poet laureate.
A reception in honor of all Kentucky writers will follow.
The Kentucky General Assembly established Kentucky Writers' Day in 1990 to honor Kentucky's literary tradition and to celebrate the birth of Kentucky native Robert Penn Warren, the first poet laureate of the United States and winner of three Pulitzer prizes.
Hospice offers volunteer training
Hospice of the Bluegrass will offer volunteer training/orientation from 1 to 4 p.m. May 1 at its Frankfort office at 643 Teton Trail. Volunteers are needed to provide care and support to patients and families, and administrative support to the organization.
