The Franklin County Sheriff's Office Monday posted a flyer on its Facebook page asking drug dealers to turn in their competitors — other drug dealers.
In the post, there's an image of a marijuana leaf at the top the page. The message: "Attention Drug Dealers. Is your drug dealing competition costing you money? We offer a free service to help you eliminate your drug competition!"
Franklin County Sheriff Pat Melton said the post is funny, but the sheriff's department isn't kidding around.
"If someone uses that (letter) to remove a drug dealer out of our community, then I'll take it," he said.
At the bottom of the letter, people are asked to fill out information about the drug dealer they are reporting.
Melton said he got the idea from a the McIntosh County Sheriff's Office in Georgia. He thinks the letter will get serious inquires, especially since "it's getting a lot of play."
As of Monday afternoon, the post had been shared more than 180 times and liked 153 times. Melton said the post had been viewed more than 10,000 times.
