Starting Saturday, the Valley View Ferry will be out of service for repairs for about two weeks.
The Valley View Ferry Authority announced the closure Thursday.
The small ferry at the end of Tates Creek Road carries vehicles across the Kentucky River between Jessamine and Madison counties. It traces its beginnings to 1785 -- seven years before Kentucky entered the union.
The nearest bridges across the river are the Interstate 75 bridge and the U.S. 25 bridge, both at Clays Ferry.
