Nicholasville residents got an early start on Christmas shopping at the annual St. Luke's Craft Bazaar on Nov. 6. The event featured crafts, gift items, baked goods, along with a soup and sandwich lunch.
Oral health initiative
The Jessamine County Health Department has received a $10,000 Targeted Oral Health Surveillance Systems grant from the Department for Public Health to promote oral health care for underinsured and uninsured adults in Jessamine County.
Jessamine County health department educator Shana Peterson said the county health department is the only one in the state that is using oral health surveillance funds to target oral health care for adults.
The county already has oral health care programs in place that target children.
The newly-formed Jessamine County Oral Health Coalition's mission is "to improve the oral health of adults in Jessamine County." Some of the coalition's objectives are: to apply for other funding sources to assist with payment of treatment services, specifically for the underinsured, and to promote volunteerism among local dental professionals to assist Refuge Ministries Dental Clinic in securing sufficient providers for the eligible uninsured patients to receive dental treatment.
