A Jessamine County man died early Sunday after falling off the old U.S. 27 bridge over the Kentucky River between Jessamine and Garrard counties.
Jessamine County coroner Michael Hughes said John David McFadden, 35, was sitting with a friend on the Old Camp Nelson Bridge, which is closed to traffic. Fully clothed, McFadden fell at least 50 feet into the river about 2 a.m. Sunday and drowned, Hughes said.
Authorities searched the river, and using sonar, they found McFadden's body within 50 yards of the bridge shortly after 4 a.m., Hughes said. Funeral arrangements are pending; results of toxicology tests will determine whether alcohol was a factor.
