Kentucky State Police are conducting a death investigation after a body was found in a car in rural Madison County.
Shortly before 3 p.m. Saturday first responders were alerted to a car spotted in Silver Creek, according to Robert Purdy, public affairs officer for Kentucky State Police Post 7 in Richmond. The creek is located at the end of Duck Branch Road near Poosey Ridge Road in rural Madison County.
The vehicle was a dark gray Toyota passenger car and was partially submerged in the water. A man was located inside the car and was pronounced dead by the Madison County Coroner. Due to high water, first responders could not remove the body until Sunday morning.
An initial investigation indicates the body is believed to be 78-year-old Fred Warner, of Richmond, who was last seen in Richmond on Dec. 18 last year. An autopsy is scheduled to be performed at the State Medical Examiner’s Office in Frankfort.
Purdy said Warner may have driven into the creek and the car floated to where it was found.
The investigation is ongoing.
