RICHMOND — A Madison County couple charged in the beating death of their 7-month-old daughter waived their case to a grand jury Wednesday.
William Leroy Dawes, 27, and Diana Dawes, 25, appeared in Madison District Court with their attorneys. William Dawes is charged with murder, and first-degree criminal abuse in the death of Serenity Dawes. Diana Dawes is charged with complicity to murder and complicity to criminal abuse.
Kentucky State Police said Serenity Dawes was taken to University of Kentucky Chandler Hospital on July 1, after her parents said she had stopped breathing while at home with her father. Serenity had multiple injuries, including a fractured skull, a broken leg, and bruising. She was placed on life support and died July 2.
The grand jury will determine whether there is evidence with which to issue an indictment against the couple.
