Two Madison County women died early Friday after their Jeep Liberty, traveling in the wrong lane on Interstate 75, collided head-on with a tractor-trailer, according to Richmond police.
The victims were Pennifer McIntosh, 44, and Christina Blevins, 30, Richmond Police Maj. Bob Mott said.
Police were called to the scene, just south of Exit 87, the Barnes Mill Road exit, in Richmond at 1:16 a.m., Mott said.
The Jeep Liberty was traveling south in the northbound lane when the accident occurred, he said. Mott said both women, who were dead at the scene, were wearing seat belts, but police didn't know which woman was driving. There was no evidence of drugs or alcoholic beverages in the wreckage, he said.

The driver of the semi was treated, then released from Pattie A. Clay Hospital in Richmond. Mott said the truck driver's name was not being released because he was not at fault.
