An Eastern Kentucky University student pleaded not guilty Monday to charges that he set two fires in an EKU dormitory last week.
Samuel Stephen McFarland, 19, of Williamsburg, was arraigned in Madison District Court on charges of first-degree arson, first-degree wanton endangerment and first-degree criminal mischief.
A hearing in his case is scheduled Thursday morning in Madison District Court.
EKU police arrested McFarland Friday night in connection with fires that broke out on two floors of the university's Commonwealth Hall early Thursday morning. McFarland lived at the dormitory.

According to university officials, the fires began shortly after 4 a.m. Thursday, causing minor damage but forcing evacuation of the residence hall.
McFarland is being held in the Madison County Detention Center.
