Authorities on Sunday released the name of a man killed in a shootout with police Saturday night.
Jesse Gibbons, 29, of Lexington died after an exchange of gunfire on the Eastern Bypass in Richmond about 9:30 p.m. Saturday
Kentucky State Police are investigating the incident, which began after Gibbons allegedly assaulted Lexington police officer James Winter at the Circle K in Buckhorn Plaza. Gibbons fled and was chased by Lexington police to Richmond where, according to state police, he lost control of his vehicle and crashed into a wooded area on the Bypass.
Gibbons died of multiple gunshot wounds, according to the Fayette County coroner's office.
The names of the officers involved in the shooting have not been released.
