A Richmond man faces murder and assault charges as a result of a New Year's Day crash that killed one person and injured another, the Madison County Sheriff's Office said in a news release Tuesday.
Caleb Michael Aldridge, 25, was arrested Monday and was being held in the Madison County jail. He also was charged with driving under the influence.
Aldridge was charged with murder in the death of Chelsea Carroll Harnack, 22, of Richmond. Harnack, a passenger in Aldridge's car, was killed when the car crashed on 4 Mile Road and Dunbar Lane in Richmond.
Another passenger, Amber Heller, 23, of Richmond, was injured in the crash.
The arrest citation said Aldridge was driving "under circumstances manifesting extreme indifference to human life," and "that he wantonly engaged in a grave risk of death."
The crash happened shortly before 1:30 a.m. Jan. 1. Investigators said at the time that Aldridge's car ran off the road, flipped several times and caught fire.
The crash had been under investigation by the sheriff's office, which obtained a warrant for Aldridge's arrest.
