Officials in Georgetown were searching Saturday night for a 13-year-old boy who fell off a dam into North Elkhorn Creek in Scott County.
The boy and a 15-year-old were seen walking along the Great Crossings Dam at 3:16 p.m. Saturday when both fell into the water.
The 15-year-old boy swam to shore, but the 13-year-old resurfaced one time and was not seen again, said Trooper Ron Turley of the state police.
He said a dive team from Louisville had just arrived on the scene just before 8 p.m.
Never miss a local story.
Dogs and boats were also being used in the search close to the dam. One boat had gone several miles downstream and was making its way back toward the dam, he said.
The name of the boy has not been released, but Turley said his father is a trooper and his step-father is a Lexington police officer.
Turley said the Department of Fish and Wildlife is in charge of the investigation.
"This is an area that a lot of people use," Turley said. It is part of Great Crossings Park, which has a picnic area and walking trail and is frequently used for fishing.
The water is high because of recent rains, Turley said.
