An 80-year-old Corinth man was killed Wednesday when a train smashed his dump truck in Scott County.
Scott County Sheriff Tony Hampton said Stanley Hammonds was killed instantly when the train hit his single-axle dump truck near Rogers Gap Road.
It was unclear whether Hammonds saw the train or whether the truck stalled on the tracks.
The train hit the passenger side and smashed the truck into several pieces, Hampton said.
Hammonds was hauling rock to a nearby farm, where a ditch was being dug for a utility line to be built. The crash happened on private property.
Hampton said he didn't think drugs or alcohol played a role in the crash.
No charges are expected to be filed against the train operator, whose name was not released.
