Versailles police and state authorities are looking into allegations that a boy with Down syndrome was locked in a closet at South Side Elementary School.
The incident allegedly happened on Jan. 28, said Versailles Police Lt. Daniel Clark.
"Evidently the child is scared of plants, and they may have been trying to get him to come out of a closet and they put a plant in there with him," Clark said.
The boy's mother reported the incident to police on Monday and the investigation began Tuesday, Clark said.
Never miss a local story.
No charges have been filed because the investigation is in it early stages. "We're trying to get to the bottom of exactly what took place and if anything criminal took place," Clark said.
