Ouita Michel, chef of Midway's Holly Hill Inn, has been named a semifinalist for the James Beard Foundation Award as best chef in the Southeast United States. It's the fourth year in a row that Michel has received that level of recognition from the JBF. She is one of 20 Southeastern chefs, and one of only three from Kentucky, to make the semifinal list.
JBF awards recognize the best of the food world, in categories including cookbooks, chefs and restaurants.
Michel and her husband, Chris Michel, have owned and operated the Holly Hill Inn since 2000. They also own and operate Wallace Station Deli and Bakery on Old Frankfort Pike, and the Windy Corner restaurant in rural Fayette County.
Michel is a graduate of the Culinary Institute of America.
