A young Versailles girl was killed and three people were injured in a single-car crash Monday morning in Woodford County.
Hailey White, 9, was pronounced dead at the scene. The girl was in the back seat of the car and wearing her seat belt when the car went off U.S. 62 and hit several trees, Versailles police Lt. Daniel Clark said.
Hailey's brother, Jacob White, 6, and her mother, Leslie White, 28, were taken to University of Kentucky Chandler Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
William Martin Coovert, 25, a passenger, also was injured and taken to UK. Clark said he did not know Coovert's relationship with the family.
The car was westbound on U.S. 62 when it drifted off the right side of the road about 8:40 a.m. Monday. Clark said the driver swerved back onto the road and over-corrected, sliding down an embankment and becoming wedged in a cluster of trees.
Everyone in the car was wearing a seat belt, Clark said. Police said they don't think the driver was speeding or that alcohol or drugs were being used.
Versailles police were investigating.
